If your photographer has told you to stick to wearing neutral tones and avoid bright colors, this is exactly why! The highly pigmented & reflective colors cast weird shades on to your skin and while it’s possible to edit & correct, it’s going to look so much nicer when captured correctly in-camera. This can also apply to locations! If you pick a super lush green park with lots of green trees overhead and no clear sky, those skin tones are going to be green unless you have a photographer that can anticipate & plan for that. I promise there is a reason behind our suggestions!
